Story of Gratitude from a Walk, Wiggle and Wobble Client
A 57 year old black female diagnosed with breast cancer was having trouble affording her Tamoxifen. She also had recently had surgery on here shoulder and was trying to manage the chronic illnesses of cardiovascular disease and acid reflux. She owed money on doctor's bills were addressed. Through the vision and work of the Paragon Optimist club of Fairfield in creating the Breast Cancer Walk Wiggle and Wobble, this client was provided assistance through the Mercy Franciscan St. Raphael Outreach Services. Through this fund, the client was able to receive assistance with some of her medical bills so she could access the care of those physicians again. She was unable to schedule return visits until she had paid off a portion of her balance. She was also able to get a new prosthesis and bra which she greatly appreciated. In addition, she also received help with utilities when her husband was changing jobs. She shared with the Outreach Nurse "Thanks you.. I didn't know what I would have done without this fund. There is no other place to go for this kind of help. Tell the ladies at the Paragon Optimist Club that they are my angels."

As the OUtreach Nurse at St. Raphael's I would like to also express my thanks to the work of the Paragon Optimist Club. Your efforts raise funds that provide immediate and concrete assistance to clients suffering form the far reaching effects of breast cancer. But as equally important, you give these individuals a sense of hope that someone cares about their burdens and that they have options to work through their challenges. Hope is a powerful gift to offer. I believe that this client was accurate and I echo her sentiment - Thank you for being our angels!

Sincerely,

Tami Adams, RN, MSN
